Sometimes...I just crack myself up....

I know a few people out there probably get a good laugh at how much I recycle/repurpose garbage....but I can't help myself...sometimes I look at something and see...possibility...and the best thing about possibility is that it's free!

So here we go...

I started out with the idea that I wanted to make a large tag...I never really make tags and made one at Fiskateer training and wanted to play with this shape, then I thought, I really wanted to sort of make a layout on a tag and then I thought, why not turn the tag into a frame for Rob's desk...ok so then my problem was, what am I going to hold it up with....hmmmm....a trip around my kitchen and I found extra drink lids from the movie refill cups..(you know the ones you take back and they refill for the bargain price of $2.50 as opposed to $6.95?) but they always give us new lids, so I ended up with some extra lids...so I painted the lid with acrylic paint, it took about 3 coats and when it dried I put 2 push pins behind where I wanted the tag to be and one in front and then slid the tag in....THEN ....totally by accident ...the thing that holds the straw is there perfectly aligned in the middle...so it became a pen holder....how stinkin' cute is that???

The title says "Just Us Guys" Hard to see because of the glare, unfortunately no matter where I take pictures today they're not coming out great due to the crappy, dark, icky, nasty, wet, icy weather outside....

I used Bazzill cardstock, Bo Bunny PP, my Fiskars corner squeeze punch (loving all these new styles) and some scrap ribbon....easy peasy...think of this as my make up project for Friday...but since it kind of all happened by accident I don't have the step by step photos that I usually do...

I also made the coolest summer mini album ever (well of stuff that I've done anyway, I can not in any way top Dianna) which I would love to post here so you could all ooh and ahh over it and tell me how clever I am...(maybe)...but I've submitted it for publication so I am really hoping it will get picked up...so if it doesn't I'll be posting it here a little later in the month....

I really need to do some updating here on my blog..I need to fix my blogroll and also I really want to change my banner, but it's giving me indigestion right now...

Have you seen the trailer for the new Indiana Jones movie out May 22???? OH MY GOSH I can't wait!! We are so excited...and it's so cool that Shai LeBeuff is in it because it makes the boys really excited to see it too...

Fuzzy Logic?

Britain and I returned around lunch time today from our trip...(I'll expand on that below)...I know I said we hardly ever go out to dinner, but ok I was being lazy, and there's no food in the house...and well ok I don't have any excuse for myself...so I thought it would be fun to pick Landon up after school and take them both to Applebee's... a sort of welcome back/let's do something fun since we missed each other thing...

First off, let me say please do not be offended by the following story...this is just our life....

Lately, Britain has made it a personal crusade to make sure we all hold hands and say Grace before every meal. This is a good thing...If anyone takes a bite before this happens he asks God to forgive the person who took a bite before they were supposed to. This is kind of in a joking way, but not in a disrespectful way... We're not really regular churchgo-ers. We have been in the past, but have had trouble finding a church we all feel comfortable with, with the difference in our backgrounds. Mine being Roman Catholic, Rob's being more Protestant. So we educate the boys when they have questions, sometimes they'll attend church with a friend and occasionally we go to different services. So anyway, back to the program...Landon being the little instigator that he is, will purposely eat a bite when Britain is trying to start saying Grace...so this afternoon at Applebee's, our food arrived to the table, Britain expectantly put his hands out, and Landon stuffed his mouth with about 10 french fries...understand that Landon does this in no disrespect to God, but to drive his brother crazy...this is just a typical day in Life with Landon...so Britain being the mature kid he is -ignores Landon and proceeds with Grace, a slightly mischievious gleam to his eye

"Dear God, Thank you for blessing us with this food. Please bless all of those less fortunate than us...A-..oh and please don't send Landon to Hell for eating his french fries before he thanked you for them...Amen.."

me: "Amen"

Landon: "Amen (but his mouth is still full), swallows "That is SOOO messed up Britain! THAT is why I hit you sometimes for no reason, because I know later you're going to say something I want to hit you for but I can't reach you!"

How can you not love that logic?

It was worth every minute of the 3 hour drive up there...I learned so much about Fiskars tools I already have, Fiskars tools I've never seen, and Lots of Fiskars tools I need to have...It was a lot of fun, and Leslie did an awesome job! You can tell she really enjoys it, and she was so helpful with ideas for the demo I have coming up at The Scrapbook Factory...

It was a really nice bonding time for Britain and I to have some together time, and Rob and Landon also had a really great time together.

Here is Britain and I as the training was winding down...he sat and read Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkabahn during the training...what a trooper!

It's Fun PROJECT FRIDAY!!! Edited**

Hello my friends!! Thank you so much for stopping by on this Friday night...do I have you dancing around your computer with your hair in a side ponytail?!?

Here we go

So CUTE it Makes you WANT to go BUY a book BOOKMARKS!!

I can't take full credit for this project....I've seen this idea in a bunch of places so I don't know who came up with it first, I just put my own twist to it... but it's cute and it's cheap, and it's super easy...

Gather:

1. Scallop punches and a circle punch that will nest (I used my Marvy Giga scallop circle and square punches and my Fiskars XL circle squeeze punch)

2. Cardstock (I used Bazzill Bling and Worldwin)If you have not tried WorldWin Cardstock, I suggest you do...they have an awesome color selection, and it just always seems to match, it also cuts nice and clean and loves adhesive...LOVE this stuff

3. stamps ( I used Studio G clear stamps from Michael's)

4. adhesive ( I used my Tombow adhesive runner and of course Beacon's 3 in 1 craft glue)oh my heaven...I just discovered at the Beacon's site they have a "glue guide" so you can match up glue to a specific project...

5. ink

6. Jumbo Paper Clips (I got mine from the Office section of Walmart 15 for .94)

Let's go

1. Punch out your scallop circles and squares your regular circles. Punch your scalloped shapes double because your going to sandwich your paperclip between the two.

2. Stamp images on your un-scalloped circles

3. Nest your stamped images on to your scalloped punches with adhesive

4. Apply glue to the back of one of your scalloped shapes, lay it down on a flat surface, place your paperclip on the glue, (this is where I add more glue) then apply the other scallop punch (the one with the stamped image) on top they should line right up for you...

With everything going on I've gotten a little behind in my mailouts...please hang in there....

That's it! The boys actually did these too, so it's something you can make pretty easy with your kids. I'm bribing them. I told them if they helped me make a bunch of these and the pebble magnets for the craft fair that they could make some money....Being the little capitalists they are they went right to work.

I think, for the most part, that my technical difficulties are over...I hope...

I really never do cards, but I had so much fun stamping and coloring this in that I got my Doodlebug stamps out and did 3 more...I think I finally "get" the stamping/coloring in thing....it's like being a little girl again hunched over a new coloring book, biting your lip, with your crayolas....it's so FUN!!

and I did use my crayola's!! well actually they were Britain's colored pencils...you can probably totally tell I used my, er, I mean Britain's Crayola's...but it doesn't matter!!! it was FUN!

I have a big apology to make about the walking thing...I STILL haven't started...but in my defense we've had one snow storm after another here...the kids have been off for snow days the past two days...so I am going to walk, I promise, as soon as I can walk out my front door without turning into a popsicle...

Sooo, at my meeting this morning with Ann from The Scrapbook Factory, we finalized our plans...I'm so excited!!

I'm going to be doing a Fiskars Demo on March 8th from 12-4!!! If you're in the area, please come by we'll be doing a free make and take and you'll get to play with some Fiskars tools!!!

and we are finally putting the finishing touches on the Science Project...which is why this is going to be short, I've, err, I mean we've...LOL..got to finish it before tomorrow...because I have to work...

Got the first email from my MT (Medical Transcription) trainer today, but that's as far as I got, because my email and internet have been screwy all day...grrrr...but I'm looking forward to getting started!

I had to take Cocoa the terrorist to the vet today to get her shots...she hates the car...I learned how much she hates the car today when she both pooped and threw up on the less than 10 minute ride to the vets office...and she's a really small dog...and I hadn't fed her for like 4 hours before her vet apt...so how she managed to make a mess more than twice the size of her is beyond me...but of course now she's all cute and perfect and cuddled up on my lap...

and here is Landon, who specifically asked that I take this picture of him and his drawing of me on his dollar bill (how cute is that?) (his homework was to design a dollar bill) he wanted to make sure that I did not tell a funny story with this picture...it's just a picture of Landon...and his homework ...the dollar bill picture...

I am tired....

I did manage to get a little bit done today after getting back from our trip besides the laundry, which was waaaay out of control since I had to work on Saturday and we left on Sunday morning...and homework and well you know the drill...*sigh*

but I got my Deck of Me card done...not so great...I know my creative mojo just wasn't really flowing today..must be because it's been like 5 days since I've had a Crackalatte...

this week's prompt was to name something/s your talented at, and a talent you would like to have or are working at...

I also did a layout based on Creative Prompt #32...again...I like the flow of this mostly because of the photos, but very simple...and mojoless...

I have a lot to do in the weeks ahead and right now if I look too far forward, it's gets a little overwhelming...in a good, happy, exciting way, but still a bit daunting...

Tomorrow I am meeting with the Manager of my LSS Anne to drop off my flyer for the Fiskars Demo I have scheduled there on March 8th, more info to follow...I need to prepare the make n take, advertise, and make RAC's for everyone who participates..I'm aiming for about 100...

This meeting will take place after work which I have to get up for at 4am....LOL...but the coolest thing is she seems really interested in having me pick up some classes as well, so I hope to set the first one up when I see her tomorrow...

I am also trying really hard to get a bunch of work done for a local craft fair that a friend of mine has a table at to see if I have any luck...anyone have any suggestions for things to make? I'm looking for cute and easy...This is what will be keeping me very busy Wednesday and Friday...but I also have to get Cocoa to the vet to get her shots updated and we have to get Britain's Science Project done before Friday...On Saturday we're going to Peoria for the rest of the weekend so I can attend Fiskars demonstrator training....We thought we'd make a weekend of it so cool of Rob to support me in this...typically we're not such globetrotters LOL, I can't remember the last time we went anywhere...but the Rend Lake thing well, like I said it was free and had to be used up...

I am very seriously considering going back to school to be a Medical Transciptionist so that I can work from home...I've checked out several programs just have to decide to take the plunge...why is it so hard to take a leap like that? Right now, with Rob's career where it is, it is so hard for me to work because I just can't depend on him to be available when I'm at work for the kids...(if you're a military wife you can totally relate I'm sure) and as a nurse I can't just simply say "sorry gotta go the school just called"....so even though I'm only there 3 days a week, it still manages to cause problems....and I know my boys are getting older, but I just can't bring myself to let them walk into an empty house....I'm probably nuts....

anyway I am so rambling on and I really have to go to bed...I will catch up with everyones blogs tomorrow ...

Friday is FUN Project Day!!!

"Your Last Chance to Redeem Yourself Because Valentine's Day is Less Than A Week Away Movie Quote Mini Album"

I am very late because this ended up taking me longer that I thought it would...

Here's what you need:

2 pieces of solid cardstock (I used WorldWinn) 12x12

1 piece of 8 1/2 by 11 to print your quotes out

Several pieces of pattern paper (I used Autumn Leaves/Thrift Store)

deco edged scissors (I used Fiskars)

paper trimmer ( I used Fiskars)

adhesive (I used my Tombow tape runner)

glitter (extra fine, irridescent)

heart shape cutter (I used Fiskars)

jump ring

hole punch ( I used my crop a dile)

scraps of ribbon

scotch craft stick (glue for sugaring)

Let's go:

1. Cut out 10 hearts from your cardstock, and 10 hearts from your pattern paper using your shape cutter or other template. Mine measure approx 3 inches across at their widest point.

2. Using your deco edged scissors (various edges or the same whatever you want to do) cut around the outside edge of your pattern paper heart just enough for it to "nest" on your cardstock.

3. Using adhesive nest your pattern paper heart to your cardstock hearts...x10

4. Using your glue stick cover your hearts with glue, sprinkle extra fine irridescent glitter over the top, and tap off the excess

while you're waiting for your super cute hearts to dry eat the best gyro ever because all this hard work has made you very hungry...

ok I didn't eat this whole thing about 1/2 and I was full but it was really good...

still waiting....while your doing so search out some of your favorite movie quotes on google and print them out on the 81/2 by 11 cardstock. One of Rob and I's favorite things to do is watch movies together, so I made this album for him. I used quotes from Braveheart, The Last of the Mohicans, Napoleon Dynamite, Meet Joe Black, Legends of The Fall etc.

5. Now that they are dry, (I hope), Cut out and glue your movie quotes to your hearts. I ended up having to use Scotch quick dry because nothing wants to stick to the glitter

Line them up, punch a hole and thread your jump ring through. Add a little bit o ribbon and you're done!!

I should have said "walk around the world" so I apologize to my international friends for my narrowmindedness...

My plan is to start on Monday, I'm hoping that by then it won't be quite as soggy as it has been here the past few days because I do not have a treadmill . I know some of you have already started..Good for you! Kylie's walking "virtually" to Lisbon and will then get rewarded with an actual trip to Lisbon!! This is totally no stress, I just want us to be able to motivate each other to move, I definitely need the extra help, I'd much rather read or play with paper than go for a walk...so I hope you'll check back here and comment when you walk how far you went and by the weekend I'm going to add a walklist over to the right of your links (if you wish to be included please leave me a comment with your link) and it's as easy as that. So fire up those MP3 players and get your walking shoes ready! Set a goal which includes some incentive at the end...Mine is 20 lbs by the end of May and I get Scrapbook Money to spend! So I haven't set a mile goal yet, at first I think I just want to see if I can actually get out the door. Today I am grateful for

1. being off work

2. Kids had early release

3. got some scrapping done

Our time...

When I sit down at my laptop in the afternoons after work and school to check email and do some blog reading, the boys tend to follow me and take up residence at my scrap table to do their homework. I enjoy it so much, it's sort of our time to decompress from the day together...



Notice that Landon is in the background, I didn't kick him to the curb, I asked him to come sit at the table with us at which time he told me "I'm too lazy to go get a chair...get one for me Mom" to which I replied "I'm too lazy to get you a chair too, guess you're out of luck." Needless to say, he did his homework on the couch.




Landon has been full of one liners lately....some of my favorites being

or the other morning on the way to school when he pulled out a little girls phone number from his coat pocket (no I'm not kidding and he's 9...n.i.n.e.) and informed me and his brother "I got some digits!!"





and I can't forget my personal favorite on Sunday night when our friends were here I was doing the usual shuffle everyone upstairs to get their showers, when one of our friends accidentally caught Landon darting across the hallway to his room, naked, and of course this embarassed him to no end at which time he yelled to Rob (who went upstairs to help get everything under control) "Could you PUULEAZE TELL YOUR WIFE that I don't appreciate being told to take a shower when we have company!!! Seriously Dad!!! Everyone does not need to see my nuts!!"


I couldn't stop laughing long enough to be seriously mad about the smart mouth...I mean he obviously comes by it honestly, so I know I'm just talking to a brick wall anyways, and the entertainment value of these moments is just priceless....


Now can anyone tell me where else to find these...??





I thought I'd try this adhesive out, (I didn't even know Fiskars made adhesive) and you all know what an adhesive whore I am....I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! If you haven't tried it you have to it is so easy to use, but I can't find anymore of it locally which I'd like to and I can't figure out if it's refillable. I keep trying to snap it open, but I'm afraid I'll break it if I try to hard and it's not supposed to....any ideas?



Lain posted a contest at Simple Scrapbooks for Universal Letter Writing Week. They have a contest going on where you do a layout featuring a letter, or letters. I did one with letters from Rob to me while he was deployed to Turkey, (he left when Britain was 2 weeks old). We have been very lucky in this military life we live and I can't imagine not having taken this journey.



I scanned the letters onto cardstock and then wrote my own to Rob. This will also serve as my layout for the LOAD today.



I haven't gotten a lot done lately. This weekend I'm going on a crop retreat here. I am so excited, but I haven't even begun to pack and I get myself all worked up over what to bring. Leslie is going with me, this is our 3rd year!! I'm hoping I'll still be able to blog from there because they do have wifi.



Tomorrow, Leslie and I and another friend from work are going shopping here to get some scrappy goodness for our trip!! Can't was it for that either...

I did not weigh myself today, because the truth is, my diet went to h.e.double hockeysticks this week with all the banquets, meetings and other eating out crap I had to do. Like I should be expected to not eat the chips and salsa, and queso, and fresh tortillas from Chevy's...no sorry can't do it...I don't think I did that bad but I don't want to discourage myself and with the retreat this weekend, well...think I'll take a "do over" and start fresh next week.

oh and "27 Dresses" I loved it!! It was totally a chick flick, but it's the best romantic comedy I've seen in a long time. The boys loved "Cloverfield" and I am ever so happy that Rob has his little "mini me's" to watch these movies with so I no longer have to be subjected to them.

Drum Roll Please.....Countdown to Valentine's Day Project #3!!

Coolest Mom (or sister, or grandma, or wife or friend or husband or whatever you are) on the Block it's a great day in the morning door hangers!!!!

Gather:

1 empty Crystal Light canister or similiar container to recycle

2 12x12 pieces of paper ( I used my last year Karen Foster Calendar pad 1 piece of pp and 1 piece of solid)

paper trimmer ( I use my fiskars)

Adhesive ( I used my fiskars tape runner-- does anyone know if these are refillable, I'm loving it??.... and my Xyron 900 love this too)

Letter Stickers ( I used American Craft Remarks)

Hole punch ( I used the Crop A Dile..you gotta have one of these if you don't already)

Piece of ribbon

Scallop punch or other circle cutter for lid

Let's do it:

1. Peel off your label ( mine left some scraps behind, but I left them because I'm just not that technical and your going to cover it all up anyway)

2. Trim your paper (if you're using a CL container or the Walmart version of the same these measure approx 5.75 high and I just used the whole 12 inches to wrap and let them overlap)Cut the solid about an inch narrower than your pattern paper.

notice my new manicure..I can never seem to keep my hands nice since they are either in bleach or crafting... so whenever I have an event to go to I go get acrylics...again...

3. Using your adhesive stick your solid to your pattern paper.

4. Apply adhesive to the back of your pattern paper/solid paper combo and then stick the whole thing on your canister.

5. Using you Crop A Dile or other hole punch, punch holes in both side and thread your ribbon through.

please pretend that you can't see what a mess my desk is....

6. Using a Scallop punch (or whatever means necessary) punch or cut a circle to cover the lid.

7. Spell out a cute message for a label with your letter stickers!!

Admire yourself for your superskills!! You ARE Done!!!!

Some ideas for fillers: I have boys so I am going to fill these with their favorite candies, some Burger King coupons and a gift card for GameStop and I'm going to hang them on their bedroom doors for them to wake up and see Valentine's morning. The possibilities are endless! I was thinking Starbuck's Gift Card and Chocolate for a friend, or some scrapbooking embellishments, pens and pencils and other supplies for a teacher maybe...I can't wait to see what you guys do with this one!!

I have some exciting news, My LSS The Scrapbook Factory had an open call for their Design Team on Friday and guess what??? I'm on it!!! I am so excited about this! It's the first time anything like this has happened to me!! My "Lucky" Layout posted yesterday was the first thing I've done for them and I have a new Vday kit sitting here for me to play with as well. Basically you get new product to play with and they create a kit out of what you make, and for compensation you get store credit....HOLEY HONEY BUNCHES OF OATS BATMAN!!

We are off to the movies, Rob and the boys are seeing "Cloverfield" and I'm going to see "27 Dresses" Love it when both movies start at the same time!

Today I am grateful for:

1. Making the DT for The Scrapbook Factory!!

2. Having a day off that all 4 of us get to hang out

3. Getting to go out with Rob for a little while this morning shopping

4. Hot CoCoa on a cold cold day

5.getting to see a girl movie...even if it is by myself...LOL
